Commenting on the change, Paul Swenson, President/CEO of Citadel says "the name change will also allow us to put an end to all the confusion created by sharing the name with the Canadian franchise organization. Citadel also offers national service through its affiliation with other NAID* and PRISM** members known as the Citadel Alliance.

The Illinois-based company is not to be confused with the Shred It organization that was founded in Canada. Shred-It Inc (Illinois) was founded in 1985 prior to the Canadian-based firm and controlled the name in that state as a result. It is Shred It Inc (Illinois) that has changed its name.
